A welcome to new members of The Provenance Magazine's advisory group, including:

The "beta-prototype" was activated on October 30, 1995 at our "home Web site" (at www.intergate.bc.ca/netpac/provenance/index.html ). This first issue was activated on December 17, 1995.

  • A note of special recognition to the Internet Gateway Corporation, our Internet Web Site sponsor, and to the Tony Yau Design Company for the neat design work and graphics.
  • A special note of appreciation to Carole Joling and participants of the 1995 Networking the Pacific Forum, for their inspiration and moral support.
  • A note of appreciation to members of the British Columbia Libraries Association, Third World Libraries Interest Group
  • And of course a welcome and thank you to all those "special" librarians and information technologists that are contributing with articles and support services to make this new electronic magazine work.

Changes and Updates:

Please note that we are experimenting with various ways to keep some areas of the magzine regularly updated e.g. the NEWS AREAS.
  • more Feature Articles both in the area of Disaster planning as well as more general topics.
  • more original children's illustrations in our Children's Column area, courtesy of Marta Nielsen, Jane Cobb.and Tony Yau.
  • images of the Rabaul Public Library, our first view of what a volcano can do to a collection, were used to assist in local fund raising efforts for the rebuilding of this South Pacific Library.
  • We are adding new articles and building our other areas.
    • The Special Libraries Association, Western Canada Chapter is working on a demonstration project with us to publish a Web version of their professional publication.
    • See our Profession Development and News areas for in depth conferences and course announcements!
    • We've just received copies of papers from the Networking the Pacific forum, which we will mount excerpts. Note the papers in their entirety have just been put on I.D.R.C.'s Web site.
  • I would like to encourage you to look at our Travel & Vacations Section - it provides a nice contrast to some of the more serious information in this magazine. This area will grow in the new year.

Conclusion

Our first issue features Disaster & Emergency Preparedness Any of you with thoughts or suggestions on the topic, can send -email to the Editor, Guy Robertson, c/o myself (see below). You will note the wide scope of subjects that Provenance potentially plans to cover--so comments or article suggestions are welcome.

Have a safe and hopefully refreshing Christmas season!
